Description
"The Cool Mikado" was one of the first films directed by Michael Winner.
This British musical is an updated take on the Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera The Mikado and features a great cast including:
Frankie Howard
Lionel Blair
Stubby Kaye
Mike and Bernie Winters
Tommy Cooper
......and even The John Barry Seven!
Winner also wrote the script with the plot reset into contemporary Japan as a comic gangster story. The dialogue was largely rewritten, and several of the well known musical items omitted. The music that remains was re-orchestrated into styles popular in the early 1960s, including the Twist, Tijuana and the Cha Cha Cha!.
"The Cool Mikado" soundtrack LP was released in 1963 by Parlophone Records (PMC 1194) and this fascinating and highly collectable album is now Ultra Rare
