Original Capitol label STEREO pressing of this 1969 heavy psych BEAST by the Corporation. Truly twisted, demented pieces of fragmented psychedelia, a bunch of street tuffs hangin' out in the alley on the front cover, chompin' on some stale bread (some kind of hidden meaning there?) and looking hairy and unkept around the same time the Beatles were doing the same. Songs like "I Want to Get Out of My Grave" are every bit as frightening as their titles, great big behemoths of acid psych with as much cuddliness as the young Lizzie Borden. Side 2 is completely devoted to a 19 and a half minute cover of John Coltrane's "India", proving that these longhairs were not only able to take a groove and ride on it for nearly a third of an hour, but that they had some impressive taste - when other bands were cranking out perfunctory run-throughs of Hendrix and Cream, the Corporation boys were jamming to a pivotal early progressive jazz tune by Coltrane. Hardly the stuff of "corporate" heads, I say. Sure, their judgement lapsed a bit on the back cover liner notes, where you get to groan through dozens of bad puns like "the hottest commodity around", "skyrocketing musical dividends", and, shudder, "get CORPORATELY involved" - but once you put the needle to the vinyl, you realize these rabble rousers from the bad part of town are clearly in it for the music, and aren't passing off yet another Top 40 money maker for the Man at Capitol. And let me add my own bad pun if I may - if you're the high bidder on this album, consider yourself involved in a "corporate takeover"! Original 1969 pressing on the Capitol label. STEREO pressing. Has "FREE" stamp in corner, like so many of these late 60's Capitol albums. Radio station call letters written on front and back cover. Split spine, stickers on front and back covers, so I'd grade the cover a VG. Vinyl plays nice VG++ and that's what really matters.
