Count Basie Plays...Joe Williams Sings Standards – The Greatest!!

William James "Count" Basie (August 21, 1904 - April 26, 1984) was an American jazz pianist, organist, bandleader, and composer. His mother taught him to play the piano and he started performing in his teens. Dropping out of school, he learned to operate lights for vaudeville and to improvise accompaniment for silent films at a local movie theater in his home town of Red Bank, New Jersey. By 16, he increasingly played jazz piano at parties, resorts and other venues. In 1924, he went to Harlem, where his performing career expanded.
Joe Williams (December 12, 1918 - March 29, 1999) was an American blues/jazz singer. For his work on this album, he was awarded the 1985 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance. He worked regularly until his death in Las Vegas on March 29, 1999, at the age of 80.

Released in 1956. UK pressing. Mono.

Condition: (as Record Collector’s grading system)
Vinyl side 1: excellent (has a few very light superficial marks that do not affect the audio in any way, plays great with no jumps, sticks or clicks and minimal crackle).
Vinyl side 2: very good (has a few marks and plays with the very odd light click here and there but certainly nothing that spoils your enjoyment of the music, plays with no jumps or sticks and minimal crackle).
Cover (fully laminated, flipback): very good (some laminate lift at opening edge, a few light edge creases, light aging/discolouring on back).
I have tried to give my honest opinion as to the condition. I will give a complete refund to the buyer if they are not happy with the record.

RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM:
MINT: I very rarely use the mint grade. Only records that are still sealed or records that even under the strongest of lights are completely unmarked. Also covers that are unmarked/uncreased in any way and still look brand new.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is no lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
