Description
Dr HOOK & MEDICINE SHOW 45s Grab-Bag. Take the Lot for a low opening bid of just £20. Some of the enclosed are worth more than that EACH. You get NINE Doctor Hook and related 45s as detailed below. These include 2 of their rarest 45s the first being "The Cover Of "radio Times" - I found this on the net :-
"Dr Hook recorded a song with the title "The Cover of Rolling Stone", but BBC Radio 1 wouldn't play it because they considered it was advertising. So CBS got a bunch of record pluggers into the studio and overdubbed the tag line as "The cover of the Radio Times" and pressed a handful of copies for Radio 1 DJs. Ironically, the BBC still wouldn't play it as they were not allowed to advertise "Radio Times"! Copies of this disc are as rare as hen's teeth. Kenny Everett sometimes played it on Capital radio just for the hell of it." Discogs only listed one sold before and that was for £50 two years ago. Ebay sold one last year for £78
The second rarity here is Dr Hooks first single, the 1971 release "The Last Morning"/"One More Ride (Bunky and Lucille)". This is an Italian single with a picture sleeve featuring Dustin Hoffman on the cover from the film soundtrack "Who Is Harry Kellerman And Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me". The success of this single resulted a record contract with CBS and Sylvia's Mother, the rest is history.
