Recorded at Am Rep Recording Division, Minneapolis, Minnesota.While the Seattle grunge scene received most of the attention in the early '90s, bands from the Midwest were brewing a tougher fusion of punk and metal--equal parts gasoline, sludge, and sardonic bile. Minneapolis' Cows were one of the most celebrated of the lot, and their 1993 album, SEXY PEE STORY, is persuasive evidence why. Rock's blues heritage was never lost on the Cows; every song on the album carries a buried strain of deep blues DNA, however mutated it may be. "Doing the Obvious" is a rusty sickle making repeated, bloody cuts, the title track is a toxic rattletrap trip through the gutter, and "Mrs. Cancelled" is the last drop of some cheap brown liquor after a really lousy day. While The Cows are often labeled "noise," SEXY PEE STORY also betrays intelligence plus a willingness to make humor and power out of sheer ugliness.
