EXCELLENT COPY - WELL PLAYED BUT WELL CARED FOR - THE VINYL SURFACES ARE PRACTICALLY UNMARKED AND THE SOUND IS SENSATIONAL THROUGHOUT - PLAYS BEAUTIFULLY
It is important to note the differences between genuine first pressings of this album and later re-issues.
The following is a list of the distinctive 1st press features:
* The (1/1) matrix numbers have an inverted triangle A?1/B?1 (later pressings have a double backslash ( //) in this position)
* The record labels have the earliest credits which were almost immediately corrected (on Side 1 – “Windfall Music” corrected to “Immediate Music”, on Side 2 – “Apple Publishing” corrected to “Copyright Control”)
* The Side 2 record label shows 1967 (on later pressings this was changed to 1966)
* The 1st issue sleeve is made by E. J. Day. It is laminated on both sides and has “Patent Pending” text on the back cover
* It has the earliest possible white “reaction” logo on the bottom left of the back cover (later sleeves have this in black)
* The Side 2 track-listing on the back cover is printed in white text
* The text “MONO 593 003” is printed in thick black print in the top left corner of the back cover (later sleeves have this in a white box in the top right corner).

Cream teamed up with producer Felix Pappalardi for their second album, Disraeli Gears, a move that helped push the power trio toward psychedelia and also helped give the album a thematic coherence missing from the debut.
This, of course, means that Disraeli Gears gets further away from the pure blues improvisatory troupe they were intended to be, but it does get them to be who they truly are: a massive, innovative power trio.
The blues still courses throughout Disraeli Gears -- the swirling kaleidoscopic "Strange Brew" is built upon a riff lifted from Albert King -- but it's filtered into saturated colours, as it is on "Sunshine of Your Love," or it's slowed down and blurred out as it is on the ominous murk of "Tales of Brave Ulysses."
It's a pure psychedelic move that's spurred along by Jack Bruce's flourishing collaboration with Pete Brown. Together, this pair steers this album away from recycled blues-rock and toward its eccentric British core, for with the fuzzy freak-out "Swlabr," the music hall flourishes of "Dance the Night Away," the swinging "Take It Back," and of course, the schoolboy singalong "Mother's Lament," this is a very British record.
Even so, this crossed the ocean and became a major hit in America as well, because for no matter how whimsical certain segments are, Cream is still a heavy rock trio and Disraeli Gears is a quintessential heavy rock album of the '60s.
Yes, its psychedelic trappings tie it forever to 1967, but the imagination of the arrangements, the strength of the compositions, and especially the force of the musicianship make this album transcend its time as well.

LABELS: EXCELLENT
Clean, unmarked labels which have lost none of their strong, vibrant blue colour. Numerous spindle traces are evident
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT+
Both surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen with very few marks - just some hairlines which have no audio impact
VINYL Audio: EXCELLENT+
The sound performance throughout is sensational - deep, rich, beautifully warm and incredibly immediate with crystal clear up-front bass.
This copy may have been well played over the years but it has also been extremely well cared for and my play-check at loud volume found little to fault - just the occasional, isolated 'pop' was noted throughout the course of both sides (nothing major and mostly between tracks) but no other audible distractions of note - no scratches, no groove-wear or sound distortion evident or even any prominent surface noise - plays beautifully
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
Apart from some light creasing at the opening edge the sleeve is in wonderful condition with no wear to speak of on the edges or spine - where all text is clear and bold, and the laminated surfaces retain their glass-like glossy sheen
INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
Clean, white and unmarked with no seam splits
