ORIGINAL UK REACTION (594 003) FIRST *STEREO* PRESSING (November 1967) OF CREAMS' CLASSIC, SEMINAL SECOND LP, "Disraeli Gears" IN SUPERB CONDITION DELIVERING PRACTICALLY FLAWLESS AUDIO THROUGHOUT (ON MY SYSTEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME!!) FANTASTIC COPY - SOUNDS SENSATIONAL

THERE ARE A FEW UNIQUE FEATURES WHICH MARK THIS COPY OUT AS BEING A VERY EARLY PRESSING
* The record labels have the credit on Side 2 – “Apple Publishing” which was later corrected to “Copyright Control”
* The matrix numbers have a ∇ separator rather than the later double slash (//)
* The vinyl is of a much heavier weight than later presses and has a square-cut rim edge
* The 1st issue sleeve is made by E. J. Day and has the “Patent Pending” text with the earliest white “reaction” logo on the bottom left of the back cover (later sleeves have this in black)
* The Side 2 track-listing on the back cover is printed in white text
* And finally, the STEREO 593 003 is printed in thick black print in the top left corner of the back cover (later sleeves had a white box in the top right corner)

Cream teamed up with producer Felix Pappalardi for their second album, Disraeli Gears, a move that helped push the power trio toward psychedelia and also helped give the album a thematic coherence missing from the debut.
This, of course, means that Disraeli Gears gets further away from the pure blues improvisatory troupe they were intended to be, but it does get them to be who they truly are: a massive, innovative power trio.
The blues still courses throughout Disraeli Gears -- the swirling kaleidoscopic "Strange Brew" is built upon a riff lifted from Albert King -- but it's filtered into saturated colours, as it is on "Sunshine of Your Love," or it's slowed down and blurred out as it is on the ominous murk of "Tales of Brave Ulysses."
It's a pure psychedelic move that's spurred along by Jack Bruce's flourishing collaboration with Pete Brown. Together, this pair steers this album away from recycled blues-rock and toward its eccentric British core, for with the fuzzy freak-out "Swlabr," the music hall flourishes of "Dance the Night Away," the swinging "Take It Back," and of course, the schoolboy singalong "Mother's Lament," this is a very British record.
Even so, this crossed the ocean and became a major hit in America as well, because for no matter how whimsical certain segments are, Cream is still a heavy rock trio and Disraeli Gears is a quintessential heavy rock album of the '60s.
Yes, its psychedelic trappings tie it forever to 1967, but the imagination of the arrangements, the strength of the compositions, and especially the force of the musicianship make this album transcend its time as well.

LABELS: The labels are clean, bright and unmarked with light/moderate spindles (which show readily on these silky matt finish labels)
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces still retain their original deep, glossy sheen with no dulling and only a few very light and superficial brush marks - these have no real consequence - the playback is superb
VINYL Audio: Outstanding audio reproduction on this LP - incredibly detailed with a crystal clear, deep, rich and warm sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listings and it's always a real pleasure to return to this one) there are no scratches, no skips or jumps, no surface noise and just the occasional, intermittent light static 'tick' and two 'pops' on "We're Going Wrong"(very, very minor) otherwise, pretty much perfect delivery. The whole LP plays beautifully and cleanly throughout with practically silent run-ins and track divisions, sensational audio clarity and stereo separation, no groove-wear and no distortion, sounds stunning and is very critically graded EXCELLENT++ for audio - fabulous copy of this outstanding LP and very, very highly recommended indeed
SLEEVE: The front laminated cover is in superb condition. The front has a beautiful deep, glass-like glossy sheen and the unlaminated back is clean and unmarked. The top and bottom edges have no wear to speak of and are crisp, square and sharp and the spine has no creases and only the tiniest touch of rubbing to the text - but it's still clear and legible - very, very fine cover indeed
