Description
It is my pleasure to offer an exceptional example of the iconic double-album by CREAM titled "WHEELS OF FIRE”, Catalogue Number 583 031/032. This is an ORIGINAL 1968 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the POLYDOR RECORD LABEL, with a 1st ISSUE ERNEST J. DAY SILVER-FOIL FINISH GATEFOLD SLEEVE. Complete with the original white poly-lined inner sleeves which have square-cut opening edges. [This early stereo pressing came with a mono sleeve which carries the mono 582 031/2 catalogue number. It was bought this way in 1968. The matrix numbers are the earliest stamped stereo matrixes which are 583031 A//2, 583031 B//1, 583032 A//1 and 583032 B//2. There is no Set Number printed on the record labels unlike all subsequent stereo pressings].
The sleeve is in EX+ condition with only very light wear and a few minor creases. This is an exceptionally well-preserved example of this notoriously wear-prone sleeve. I have taken plenty of photos which hopefully show the outstanding condition.
The solidly-pressed 165g and 155g records are in EX+ condition. The tangerine Polydor labels are like new with only a few faint spindle traces each side. There is virtually no wear to either spindle hole. I can confirm that the records have only received a few careful plays. Both sides play MINT- throughout with no discernable deterioration in sound quality and virtually no unwanted noise at all. In my opinion this stunning set of records will be almost impossible to match!
The inner sleeves are the originals with “British Patent No…” and “MADE IN ENGLAND” text at the bottom. One inner has a few small numbers written in red pen in one corner.
Overall this is a magnificent 1st press stereo copy of Cream’s iconic double album which will grace any record collection.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Sony PS-X600 turntable fitted with an AT-30E MC cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My grading is strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
All records can be expected to rotate sufficiently evenly on the turntable for there to be no effect whatsoever on the audio playback. Minor warps or dishing will not be mentioned as virtually all records display these features to some degree and no record is perfectly flat.
PACKAGING
LPs are packaged with care and well protected to ensure that they arrive safely in the same condition as they leave me. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
