Michael Fremer, Senior Contributing Editor, STEREOPHILE, Music Editor, LISTENER, says “I’ve just listened to the CCR pressings mastered by Kevin Gray and Steven Hoffman and let me tell you: when the bass kicked in, I thought I was playing a 45 at 33 1/3 it was so deep and thick but it was 33 1/3 and when the guitars kicked in, it was WOWIE!!!!! This is as close to listening to a Master Tape as I’ve heard from vinyl – not hyperbole.

There have been so few vinyl LPs produced over the last 5 years that you should never pass up the opportunity to upgrade your collection. They're each very limited in their pressings and disappear with extraordinary quickness from the vinyl market. This causes prices to skyrocket because once they are gone, they are gone forever! Don't second-guess yourself with this chance to upgrade your collection because before you know it, the opportunity will have passed forever. 

 Gray built the cutting system from scratch, including transformerless, discrete, Class-A amplification from tape head to cutter head. It features a Neumann VMS 66 lathe with the finest add-on computer that allows Gray to adjust groove spacing and to let the maximum amount of density onto each disc. The system also includes a Technics SP-02 turntable motor that features high torque with low rumble.

A bona fide rock classic, Bayou Country (released in January 1969) broke CCR wide open nationally and worldwide, containing the group's first big hits, "Proud Mary" and "Born On The Bayou". These two tracks, along with "Bootleg," "Graveyard Train" and "Keep On Chooglin'," were pure CCR- gritty vocals, tight leads and infectious rhythm. John Fogerty's lyrics evoke a Mississippi and bayou folk legend, a world of voodo fortune tellers, hoodoos and hound dogs and, together with his raspy-voiced delivery, prompted a wide speculation that the El Cerrito, California band was of southern origin. Before the year was out, 35 artists had cut cover versions of "Proud Mary" while the Bayou Country album itself seemed unkillable, remaining on the Billboard charts for 87 weeks and becoming CCR's first platinum LP.
