Brooklyn's spectral garage-pop quintet, Crystal Stilts (Bass - Andy Adler / Drums - Miss Frankie Rose / Organ - Kyle Forester / Guitar - JB Townsend and Vocals - Brad Hargett), have released their debut UK single through Angular, the first to be taken from the album ‘Alight of Night’. 'Departure', and its b-side 'Prismatic Room' both provide early tasters for anyone not quite familiar with the band, and in true enigmatic fashion, display two completely different sides to Crystal Stilts sound and make-up.

The lead track 'Departure' is a concise atmospheric echoing masterpiece, but has a pop sensibility. It's a four-minute garage stomp that recalls Lazy-era My Bloody Valentine playing hopscotch in the schoolyard with the Reid Brothers while The Cramps and The Gun Club alternate between skips and jumps on the stereo. Its flipside meanwhile is a more elegiac affair, as swooning keyboards lead the way through a haze of fug and mournful vocals like Clinic on a bad trip with Jane From Occupied Europe. For fans of Joy Division, Jesus and Mary Chain etc.!

Format: Limited edition of 1,000 as a black and white marbled 7" single in great picture sleeve! In mint condition, never played - deleted!

This single features two brand-new songs that are not to be found on their album. 'Love Is A Wave' is a firm favourite of the band’s live show, a perfect two-minute pop nugget in the best punk rock tradition. Fired by an insistent fast-strummed riff, an eager beat and barely-contained feedback, 'Love Is A Wave' is an instant classic that stands tall with tunes like 'Never Understand' and 'I Heard Her Call My Name' in the noise-pop pantheon. B-side 'Sugarbaby' is no slouch either, sounding like The Clean if they had been produced by Lee Hazlewood back in Arizona in the late 50s. With a spookily evocative keyboard line, breathless backing vocals and undistorted twang, Sugarbaby could be from 1959, or 1969, or 1989. But it’s pure 2009, and another great example of how Crystal Stilts have managed to mine rock’s past and create something entirely new and crucial for today.

MINT (M)

The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as „sealed“ or „unplayed“ should be „mint“. 
 

EXCELLENT (EX)

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. 
 

VERY GOOD (VG)

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality. Shows noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. 
 

GOOD (G)

The record has been played a lot and shows noticeable degradation of sound quality, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc. 
 

FAIR (F)

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Die Schallplatte ist im neuwertigen Zustand. Es gibt keine Kratzer, die Tonqualität ist einwandfrei. Das Cover und eventuell vorhandene Beiblätter sind im neuwertigen Zustand. In der Regel ist die Schallplatte ungespielt. 
 

EXCELLENT (EX)

Die Schallplatte weist einige Spuren vom Abspielen auf. Die Tonqualität ist nur geringfügig verschlechtert. Das Cover hat geringfügige Abnutzungen oder Knicke. 
 

VERY GOOD (VG)

Die Schallplatte ist offensichtlich häufig abgespielt worden, weist aber keine wesentlichen Qualitätsverluste auf. Kleiner Kratzer bzw. leichtes Rauschen können vorkommen. Das Cover kann Einrisse haben, oder hat sich am Rand gelöst, ist aber noch brauchbar. 
 

GOOD (G)

Die Schallplatte hat erheblich an Qualität verloren. Es können Verzerrungen oder größere Kratzer vorkommen. Das Cover ist stark beschädigt. 
 

FAIR (F)

Die Schallplatte ist gerade noch abspielbar, allerdings ist die Qualität stark verschlechtert. Das Cover ist sehr stark beschädigt oder zerrissen.
