Very nice copy of the rare original 1957 pressing of the Curtis Counce Group Vol. 2 - You Get More Bounce with Curtis Counce, on Contemporary LP C3539. Classic west coast jazz featuring the great Jack Sheldon on trumpet, Harold Land on tenor, and Carl Perkins (no relation to the rock and roll singer) on piano. Curtis, of course, is on bass, and wow! One of the greatest bassists of all time, in my book. Incidentally, this copy was a gift from Counce to his bass playing pal, the equally great Ray Brown, from whose estate I acquired it.
The disc is very nice and plays very well, but it does have a touch of wear. Some light marks and scuffing but not a great deal. Nothing deep and not all that much. Just a bit. It plays mostly quite beautifully, even perfectly, but there are a few moments with a bit of light background crackle and a few stray ticks. Never bad enough to be much of a distraction and it is only in spots. Really it is a perfectly delightful listen, with no groove distortion or bad wear that makes it hard to enjoy. Really a lovely playing copy. The cover has only light ringwear and minor signs of light use and age. A bit of corner rubbing, but barely. No crumpled corners, markings, or seam splits. Really a lovely original copy inside and out.
