Original Black Jazz pressing of Shawn-Neeq, Calvin Keys’ highly regarded 1971 debut and one of the cornerstone releases on the legendary Black Jazz label. Vinyl is in VG+ condition with only light sleeve scuffs and clean playback. Sleeve is VG, showing moderate edge and surface wear but fully intact with no splits. Labels are clean.

Calvin Keys came up as one of the most fluid, understated, and harmonically adventurous guitarists of the early-1970s spiritual jazz scene. While contemporaries like George Benson and Grant Green were moving into slicker, more commercial forms, Keys sat firmly in the exploratory Black Jazz/Ovation circle — a space defined by deep groove, modal experimentation, and raw ensemble chemistry. Shawn-Neeq captures him in his most creative period, blending soulful lines, open-chord textures, and hypnotic rhythms that made him a quiet giant among the era’s forward-thinking players. This album remains one of the defining documents of the Black Jazz catalog and a favorite among collectors for exactly that reason.
