"Cardiac Arrest" is the debut studio album by the American funk band Cameo, released on the Chocolate City Record label. Cameo and Blackmon a native Harlemite, were originally known as the "New York City Players" before quickly changing their name to Cameo.
"Cardiac Arrest," launched the beginning of the Cameo sound, with producer and multi-instrumentalist Larry Blackmon, the LP showcases the band's early big-band, horn-heavy deep funk sound. This style stands in stark contrast to the sparser, synth-driven digital funk and pop-inflected hits (like "Word Up!" and "Candy") they became famous for in the 1980s. The album relies heavily on snappy rhythm sections, aggressive basslines, and strong George Clinton/Parliament-Funkadelic influences, whose music was also released under Casblanca Records the parent company of Chocolate City Records.
The album successfully launched Cameo's career, peaking at number 16 on the Billboard R & B charts. It is most notable for containing:"Rigor Mortis", the album's breakout hit single, which became a foundational, heavily-sampled dance track. "Funk, Funk", another prominent dance and R & BB chart single from the record. , "Find My Way" a smooth, proto-disco soul track that originally found success on the disco charts, "Stay By My Side" / "Smile": a traditional, slower soul ballads that demonstrated the group's early vocal harmony range along with " Post Mortem" had a heavy impact on the 1970s funk scene.
