Description
CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN – TAKE THE SKINHEADS BOWLING – UK 7" – ROUGH TRADE RT 161
An original 1986 UK Rough Trade pressing of Take The Skinheads Bowling from my own record collection, with the original RT 161 hype sticker still intact on the front sleeve. Those stickers were the first thing most people picked off, so it's nice to find one still where it should be.
If you don't know the sleeve, it's one of the great ones. The whole thing is handwritten in red felt-tip by David Lowery, starting with a note to the record label on the front:
"Greetings. This is the photo we would like on the front cover of the 7". The photo may be shrunk, distorted, abused and/or blown up to billboard size & placed on the sides of buses, as long as Greg's smiling face is on the cover of the 7" because he hates this photo & he wasn't around when we were deciding on the artwork for this 7"..."
The photograph is of guitarist Greg Lisher, taken by Tarah Rider. The back cover carries on in the same spirit — the musicians listed by hand, a note that the record was mixed at Samurai Sound Labs and at "Chris Molla's Enormous Piece of Squid in the Fridge Studios", and an asterisk beside the B-side title pointing to the verdict "A Real Bastard!". That one isn't a joke about a made-up person: Enrique Bermúdez was the actual commander of the Nicaraguan Contras, which tells you where the band stood.
The A-side has had a long life since — it turned up in Michael Moore's Bowling For Columbine and has been covered plenty of times — but this is the original UK single, not a reissue.

CONDITION — HONEST DESCRIPTION
Vinyl: Plays clean right through on both sides — no skips, no jumps, no sticking. Held up to the light the surface is still glossy with only a few light marks of the sort you'd expect on a record of this age. Both labels are clean and unmarked, no spindle damage, no writing.
Sleeve: Light edge and corner wear only. No splits, no tears, no ring wear. The original RT 161 sticker is present and intact, and the red printing throughout is still strong. I've photographed it in daylight rather than flattering it, so please do have a proper look at the pictures.
Please note: this has been stored for years and will benefit from a clean before play. I don't wet-clean records before selling — I'd rather leave that to you and price accordingly. Everything I can see is described above, and the photos form part of the description. If you'd like a closer picture of anything, just ask and I'll take one.
POSTAGE & PACKING
Sent from the UK, well packed in a proper stiffened record mailer with the vinyl removed from the sleeve to prevent seam splitting and ring wear in transit. Never posted loose in a jiffy bag.
MORE FROM MY COLLECTION
I'm gradually listing my personal record collection — original 7" and 12" singles, LPs and the odd rarity, mostly 70s and 80s indie, punk and alternative. New items go up every week, so it's worth adding me to your saved sellers. If you're after something specific, message me — there's a good chance it's still in a box waiting to be photographed.
Please check my other listings and save on combined postage.
Thanks for looking. Any questions at all, just ask — I'm happy to help.
