About This Release
Original US Columbia Masterworks pressing of the Canada volume from the landmark Columbia World Library of Folk and Primitive Music, catalogue number SL-211.
The Canadian volume was edited by noted folklorist and ethnomusicologist Marius Barbeau, with Alan Lomax serving as general editor of the World Library project.
The recordings document a broad cross-section of traditional Canadian music, making this an important early ethnographic recording as well as an interesting piece of Columbia Masterworks history.
