Description
This is the very rare and hard to find 1972 UK first pressing of Captain Beefheart’s vinyl LP ‘Clear Spot’ on Reprise records, catalogue number K54007. The matrix runout numbers are K54007-A1/B1. ‘Clear Spot’ is embossed into the clear vinyl sleeve and is not printed on the insert. The tan reprise centre labels have the riverboat on them and do not have a Warner logo. See the enlarged versions of the photos.
This 1st press doesn’t appear on the market that often. As far as I can tell, this is only the second one to appear on eBay this year
The clear vinyl sleeve strap is fine, which is unusual for copies of this forty plus year old album, but the bottom of the vinyl sleeve has opened all the way across and has opened about half an inch up one side. The insert has square corners, is completely unmarked and is in very good condition but for two tiny corner bumps. Hard to know how to grade a vinyl outer sleeve and insert but I think VG+ would be a safe bet for this.
The record is VG+, with some faint surface marks.

I am not a record dealer. Over the next few weeks I am selling off my collection of some two hundred albums, mainly from the 1960s and 1970s (see my other items). These have been stored with care and unplayed over the past twenty years. Before this most were played only on a Linn LP12 deck and carefully handled. None of them are mint (it was a working record collection) but most are in extremely good condition. Many were bought as the albums were released and so are first pressings. I have tried to use the guide to condition in Record Collector as a guide to my descriptions of condition and am also providing other information such as matrix numbers wherever possible. I am also posting a number of photos of each album. If anyone buys an album and feels it has not been accurately described, I will happily refund as long as the record is returned to me promptly in the condition that it left here.
I will post albums out, signed for whenever possible, in the appropriate size of high end record mailer, as supplied by Covers 33, within two working days of receiving cleared funds via Paypal. Anything over £40 will go out Special Delivery in the UK or International Signed For abroad.
Unfortunately I can’t get my postage costs as low as some of the other people who are selling on here as I live in a remote rural area and it’s a twenty mile round trip to the Post Office, but I can combine postage for records bought within a ten day period.
