Captain Beefheart's Classic SAFE AS MILK pressed on 1st Issue Dark Red Buddah Record Labels as issued in USA in 1967 !!!
Offered is the first issue Stereo version of Captain Beefheart's debut album on Buddah Records USA in 1967. This album was recorded by the band in the Spring of 1967. The band had previously signed in 1966 with A&M Records and had a good first single which sold well named Diddy Wah Diddy. The band then signed with Robert Krasnow and Buddah Records in early 1967 and recorded this album. It's a marvelous First Album by all accounts! Any band would be proud of this album as a debut album. The record is in VG+ condition; the labels are both Excellent. The jacket is in Very Good+ condition with no seam splits. The top edge of the back cover has the original owners name written in ink with the date Aug. 67. A nice descent copy of the Captain's first effort!
The band members were:
Don Van Vliet, aka Captain Beefheart, publishing in his real name and performing by his alias. (Vocals, Harmonica & Bass Marimba). Alex Snouffer, aka Alex St. Clair, also known as Alexis St. Clare Snouffer. (Guitar). Jerry Handley (Bass Guitar). John French, aka John 'Drumbo' French or simply Drumbo. (Drums & Percussion). Ry Cooder (Guitar, Slide Guitar & Bass Guitar) [A subsequently disaffected member & not appearing in photos]. Session or Guest Musicians [that are known. Others were present]: Taj Mahal (Percussion), Russ Titelman (Guitar), Milt Holland (Log Drums & Percussion), Dr. Samuel J. Hoffman aka Sam Hoffman (Theremin). Don Van Vliet wrote all of the songs, with the exception of Grown So Ugly, by Robert Pete Williams. Good Luck.
