Capt. Beefheart’s first record, considered a landmark recording. Musicians included Ry Cooder. The K-Mart sticker of $1.58 is really quite amazing: a unique feature. (The fact that it would have been sold in K-Mart at all is amusing to me--no wonder it was in the marked down bin). It has a discount hole punch on the cover. A late sixties K-Mart teen buying it unaware would be either disgusted or become a convert (like me).
This cover is VG++ (?), having been in shrink wrap all these years. The white is clean. The condition and artwork are as good as it could be. The rare inner sleeve is a masterpiece of wacky, bizarre, psychedelic artwork that only the Capt. could conjure. Years ago I printed this bumper sticker, so it is NOT the original one but an exact facsimile. (I had the whole thing with a sticker in the 60s but that one is long gone.) Nearly impossible to find an original sticker today.
The record would probably be VG+, EXCEPT there is a single scratch that spans most of side 2. (I know. Ouch.) The record DOES NOT skip, but the scratch can be heard in certain places where the sound is quiet (rare) and between tracks. (If you are at all familiar with this record, you know the original recording quality of this vinyl was never tops, the music can be quite brash and blaring (and I had very good speakers), but it was never a great recording. If you want a recording to carefully listen to, get a Sundazed vinyl or CD copy, in Mono.
I have seen original copies of this on Ebay with great vinyl but a poor cover and no original inner sleeve. Get a beautiful cover and inner (here) and wait for a “perfect” piece of vinyl (or maybe you have one). The insert is now very rare. The stickers are more than rare. I'm guessing there are very few of these around with shrink wrap still intact and an original inner sleeve. I’ll use a good record mailer.
