GROGEY'S PATCH PRESENTS:
Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band - Wangaratta Wahine 1974 12" Image Vinyl LP #ILP-744
The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band, also known as Soapbox Circus or Matchbox, were an Australian jug band formed in 1969. It centred on Mic Conway on lead vocals, washboard and ukulele; and his brother, Jim Conway, on harmonica, kazoo and vocals. A little ripper from the early 70s this unusual yet classic Australian album comes together with yodelling vocals, extended solos on harmonica and kazoo and constant slapstick references to mundane things like Chiko rolls and milk & Bonox. It's a mix of gypsy-jazz with a lot of hillbilly bluegrass blues flavouring, plus a large dose of ocker humour. The cover artwork is by Mike Leunig, making this a must have in every Aussie Vinyl collection. This album is in good to very good condition. Vinyl shows VERY minimal wear; cardboard sleeve has shelf wear as shown. Photographs are of the actual listed album. The condition of recycled vintage vinyl records is often subjective to individuals. I'm not an experienced grader, therefore I will generally list a condition range and provide plenty of quality photos because as they say "a picture paints a thousand words". Please check these photos carefully as they form part of this description and can describe vintage vinyl far better than any blurb I might write, allowing you to make your own determination. Please don't hesitate to contact me should you want more photos or information.
