CARL NIELSEN: COMPLETE SYMPHONIES. + A SPOKEN INTRODUCTION TO THE SYMPHONIES BY DR. ROBERT SIMPSON (LP 7)
This set of LPs was the first ever complete recording of the Nielsen Symphonies on LP, and was undertaken in 1973 and 1974 by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by the Danish conductor Ole Schmidt. In that respect this is an historic set, and is rarely seen much for sale.
The set is ex-library stock and has been part of my collection for many years - though I haven't played the LPs much at all. The box was never in great condition, clearly having seen quite a bit of wear and tear from library lending use. I have repaired the corners with clear tape - see pictures. There is some writing (library reference numbers) on the inside of the box and the outer cover of the comprehensive 18 page booklet. This is in English throughout and is well illustrated with photographs.
Each symphony is accommodated on one LP (six in total). The seventh LP contains a recorded introduction to the symphonies by the composer and musicologist Robert Simpson (who was still living at the time), which is quite informative and obviously, like the recordings, is of historical value.
The LPs are generally clean and tidy. I have cleaned them with an 'anti-static' brush. Some sides have little surface noise at all - very good condition. Others have the occasional bit of surface noise and odd isolated 'clicks' and 'pops'. There are no scratches, or continual aberrations. Overall I would assess as 'good' - in spite of being ex-library stock.
Clearly, a rare set, and particularly of historic value.
It will be well packaged for transit and set via Royal Mail 2nd Class parcels.
