Carlos Garnett – Cosmos Nucleus Muse Records – MR 5104 12" LP Original Pressing 1976
--> This item is from the estate of Ira Gitler, influential jazz critic and historian, whose writing appeared regularly in magazines like DownBeat and JazzTimes. He wrote several books on the subject including multiple editions of The Encyclopedia of Jazz. Ira Gitler was also one of the most prodigious writers of liner notes, annotating more than 700 albums. In 2017 he was named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts.
This records features funky mid-seventies jazz fusion with a big-band production from Panamanian-American saxophonist Carlos Garnett (1938-2023). Garnett also played with Art Blakey, Charles Mingus and Miles Davis.
There is a small brown speck visible on Side A in the title track "Cosmos Nucleus" from the manufacturing process. I carefully played it just today and I could no hear any audible effect from this, nor was there any evidence of it causing any kind of jump or skip. Photo of the speck is provided. Otherwise record and sleeve are in incredible condition--no splitting or ring wear, no surface scratches etc. Very clean and barely played.
