Description
On offer is the much desired and sought after White Label Promo of Carly Simon's 'Anticipation' (EKS-75016) from 1971. Her previous self-titled debut album (which I also have listed) had already made waves within the Folk-Rock music circuit the year before. 'Anticipation' however, placed Simon into the major leagues. Her songwriting had matured; became more polished. The songs were exquisitely and perfectly arranged/produced by Paul Samwell-Smith...but the most striking and impressive aspect of this 2nd album by Simon is her singing. This woman could always sing...but on 'Anticipation' her voice----SOARS.....and goes beyond the songs themselves...only the greatest singers have this quality. Thankfully the superb engineering captures these details for all time.
Due to the overall excellence of the recording, most pressings of this album sound great. However, one does notice some differences when listening to this Promo presing: The soundstage is wider; almost 3-dimensional.....the percussion, more "thunderous"....the strings have more sustain....the vocals are warmer and not lost in the mix. I've heard dozens of pressings of this album and hands down, this is the one to beat.
Cover: Excellent+.....beautiful condition ....only first pressings had a "metallic" sheen to them; which changes the colors from a silvery-grey...to an almost peacock-blue when shifted at a certain angle (See photos) It almost appears as though it is made with thousands of compressed satin or silk threads. There is some inoffensive creasing in a few areas and of course the usual promo "hole-punch" at the upper right ....but all in all, a wonderfully preserved example is what you have.
Original Photo/Lyric Inner-Sleeve: Excellent +....very nice... with 2 splits which can be easily repaired if desired. A higher quality inner will be included to house the precious record.
Record: Near Mint - ......the white labels are near perfect; showing virtually no spindle wear. The surface on both sides are glossy and there is hardly a blemish to be seen. Astounding audio from start to finish with only the very sporadic dust tic here and there....nothing remotely obtrusive or annoying. Again, I can not state how rare it is to find this particular pressing in this kind of condition. I am certain there isn't a cleaner copy out there. Bear in mind, this was a very popular album in 1971....most were played to death; especially by DJs at radio stations. Fortunately, this copy was spared.
