CARTOLA – ‘VERDE QUE TE QUERO ROSA’ – TS-047
Cartola was a singer and composer from Rio, born in the Catete neighborhood. For his entire life he was linked to Mangueira, a samba school that he helped found in 1928, being part of the choice of the name and famous colors.
The album ‘Verde que te quer rosa’, from 1977, has one of the most emblematic covers in Brazilian discography. Shot by the sensitive eye of the photographer, Ivan Klingen, who noticed the colors of the school of the heart in the quoted objects from the house of Cartola and his wife Dona Zica.
The list of partner composers and participations is precious. Nelson Cavaquinho, Dalmo Castelo, Nuno Veloso, Carlos Cachaça and Geraldo Pereira are some of them. And in the team of musicians we find names like Wilson das Neves, Jorginho do Pandeiro and Marçal. The production is signed by Sérgio Cabral.
This elaborate Três Selos reissue has a double pasted cover, exclusive poster, opening text signed by radio host Patricia Palumbo in addition to content produced by the house's owners, Lorena Calábria and Ramiro Zwetsch.

Biography Born 11 October 1908
Born In Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Died 30 November 1980 (aged 72)
Angenor de Oliveira, known as Cartola (it is Portuguese for 'top hat'), (October 11, 1908 – November 30, 1980) was born in Rio de Janeiro, in a neighborhood called Catete. He got his nickname because of the bowler hat he wore to keep the cement from ruining his hair while working at construction sites.
He was one of the samba composers and founders of the Estação Primeira de Mangueira, and has credit for both the name of the school and its colors: green and pink. Cartola composed, alone and alongside others, more than 500 songs.
"Cartola did not exist. He was a dream we had."
(Nelson Sargento)
