Description
Originally released in April of 1970 on Island Records in the UK (ILPS 9118), Mona Bone Jakon was Cat Stevens 3rd studio album and initially received a fairly tepid response from the public. Eventually it sold in the hundreds of thousands and is now considered the album which featured the start of Stevens' superlative songwriting skills.
The copy on offer is a rare pressing for 2 main reasons. First of all, the record has two 'Side 1' labels (though the songs are different and play correctly on the other side)....Secondly, the matrix numbers in the deadwax areas are the same as the FIRST issue with the Pink "i" Island logo. Not surprisingly, the audio is every bit as bold, detailed, and sensational as the very first pressing. In fact, it is the best sounding version of this album I've ever heard.
Cover: Very Good(+).....initial pressings in the UK of this album used fairly thin (unlaminated) card stock. It quickly attracted dirt and wear. Though this one is not "Mint" perfect it has fared far better than most that are found. Some minor creases and some inoffensive wear to the spine are visible but overall a fine example. UK Shop sticker at the back top left corner.
Record: VG+ ~ Excellent......the thick and heavy vinyl shows some superficial marks and hairlines; most have no bearing on the audio. Very minimal surface noise. The heavily textured labels are in wonderful condition and have just a few spindle marks around the center hole. As mentioned previously, the audio is simply INCREDIBLE....deep bass, clear highs...and perfectly balanced sound. You will not be disappointed.
Matrix Numbers Side 1 ILPS + 9118 + A2 Side 2* ILPS 9118 + B2 (Etched and Stamped)
*Printed as Side 1 but plays as Side 2 with the correct order of songs as listed on the back cover.
