CATHERINE DENEUVE
SERGE GAINSBOURG

Souviens-toi de m’oublier

Souviens-toi de m’oublier is the only solo album by Catherine Deneuve. The album was released in 1981. All songs on the album are by Serge Gainsbourg. Gainsbourg and Deneuve recorded it after their successful collaboration during the filming of Je vous amie (1980), and Gainsbourg wanted to release the album in a great hurry. The recording didn’t do well with the critics, and, the music buying public ignored the album almost completely.

Lots of the material Gainsbourg wrote was either “borrowed” from classical pieces or reused from older projects of his own, and then just adapting parts of the lyrics, titles and/or the musical structure:

"Digital Delay" - first created in the french tv show "N°1 Spécial U.S.A." broadcasted on 28th June 1980, under the title "Haine Pour Aime", same harmony has "Initials B.B." & "Ford Mustang"
"Dépression Au-Dessus Du Jardin" - not credited, music inspired by Frédéric Chopin, 10é Etude en Fa Mineur
"Monna Vanna Et Miss Duncan" - parody of "Docteur Jekyll et Monsieur Hyde" (1965)
"Ces Petits Riens" - originally created by Serge Gainsbourg on the Lp "Gainsbourg Percussions" (1964)
"Souviens-Toi De M'Oublier" - lyrics originaly written under the music of "Paradis", on Alain Chamfort's Lp "Amour, Année Zéro” (1981)
"Alice Hélas" - music reworked for a tv commercial jingle "Gini Je T'Aime" (1982)
