Here we have the celebrated Russian bass, Chaliapin.. (or "Schaljapin" as it's written on the label) with his second (superior) recording of "The Golden Calf" from Gounod's Faust. It's on a "Pre-Dog" 78 rpm 022097 with a bright yellow/golden label and was recorded in 1907 in St Petersburg (thank you Robert Johannesson).
There is a label in cyrillic on the reverse side (see photograph) and we don't know if this means that it was pressed in the UK for the Russian Market, or if it is a Russian pressing. It is clean and tidy and looks worth very much more than the twelve shillings and sixpence price-tag that was stuck onto the label many decades ago. We'll leave that there for you, as a curiosity. It is as clean as the pair of heels shown by a cabinet minister escaping from a sitting of the Ethics Committee, and it shines like a bright new day in Southwold. Let's call it a good strong honest VG++ or maybe better. It plays very well.
NO OVERSEAS bidders please.
And NO OVERSEAS bidders using UK addresses please.
SORRY, NO BUYER COLLECT...but.. if you buy MORE THAN ONE RECORD we will give you a HUGE discount on POSTAGE!
