Champion Jack Dupree -

Scoobydoobydoo

1969 UK Blue Horizon LP

Champion Jack Dupree - Scoobydoobydoo

Blue Horizon 7-63214

 1969, UK, stereo

Stamped matrices S7 - 63214 A1/B1

An original pressing of one of the harder-to-find albums

released on Mike Vernon’s very collectable Blue Horizon label,

and the second of two that Champion Jack Dupree

 recorded for that label.

It was recorded in London, during March and April, 1969

and released later that year.

The album also features future Stones guitarist Mick Taylor

(then with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, and

just a few months before he joined the Stones)

on lead and slide guitar throughout,

 with two different rhythm sections

(credited on the sleeve under pseudonyms).

The first is, on drums, Aynsley Dunbar (‘Dr. Harris Dundee’),

 and on bass, Alex Dmochowski

(then in The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation,

and later to play with Frank Zappa).

The second consists of Keef Hartley (‘Big Chief Drumstick’),

and on bass Gary Thain ( pre-Uriah Heep,  as ‘Wallace Tring’).

Additional horns were later added,

 from top UK session players:

lan Skidmore – tenor sax

Les Whigfield – tenor sax

Terry Noonan - trumpet

Bud Parks – trumpet, flugelhorn

Jim Chester – Baritone sax

Tracks

I want to be a hippy / Grandma (you’re a bit too slow) / Puff puff /

Who threw the whiskey in the well / Postman blues / Lawdy lawdy

VINYL

Audio EX-

Visual VG+

The album has had a VPI cleaning,

and has been carefully play graded (once).

Both sides play very well and clearly throughout,

with only the very occasional slightest click; nothing sonically intrusive -

I found it a very acceptable listening experience.

The vinyl is in good shape with only a couple of small and

 very light (non-sounding) surface scratches.

No scuffs or serious marks.  Still looks very presentable!

Both labels are quite clean, with only slight signs of age.

  No writing, tears or marks.

Some nominal spindle marks and the slightest of centre hole wear,

 but overall, still very presentable.

SLEEVE

VG+

Laminated front cover still clean and bright.

Some slight signs of age and handling on front and rear cover,

but no major wear, and still looks very respectable.

Some very light ringwear to lower front cover

Slight edge wear. Minimal corner bumping.

Pinched spine has some slight creasing, but remains clearly readable.

Slight wear to top of spine (see photos)

but otherwise no major wear or splits.

Gold 'Stereo' sticker on top left rear sleeve.

Very modest starting bid, and no reserve.

  Happy bidding!
