“Hello Baby”/“Cryin’ Alone”
Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductee Charlene Arthur (1929-1987) was a Texas rockabilly, boogie-woogie and blues pioneer who started at KERB radio in 1950. Discovered by Colonel Tom Parker, she became a regular on the Big D Jamboree radio broadcasts from Dallas, and toured with Elvis Presley throughout the South in his formative years.
Charlene Arthur recorded for a multitude of labels in the 1950s and 1960s including RCA Victor from 1953-1956. After leaving RCA, Charlene recorded this disc for the California-based Coin label. “Hello Baby” is an uptempo rocker while the B side is a more traditional country tune.
Vinyl: Graded in Very Good Plus (VG+) condition with plenty of shine, this copy has been cleaned with an ultrasonic record cleaner.
Provenance: This copy was part of the library of WPEP, an AM station located atop the Roseland Ballroom in Taunton, Massachusetts. WPEP was a 1 kilowatt daytime-only station that began broadcasting in 1949. There is a “Property of WPEP” stamp on the label. It eventually made its way into the collection of local disc jockey Ken Rapoza. After his death in 1987, it was inherited by WATD DJ Bill Clark who died in 2024.
