Description

Charlie Barnet and his Orchestra play "All the Things You Are" and "Ill Wind" on Capitol 843.  "Things" is a Dennis Farnon arrangement featuring twenty-year-old Maynard Ferguson, who goes wild in his first feature on a commercially issued record.  Unfortunately, it wasn't issued for long; the performance so enraged Jerome Kern's widow that she demanded that Capitol withdraw the record.  Bootlegs have appeared, but the original record is a rare item.  (Trumpet players, don't try playing like this at home--you'll injure yourself.)
"Ill Wind" is a pretty tune with a vocal by Trudy Richards.
Rolf Ericson, Doc Severinsen, Ray Wetzel, John Howell, Maynard Ferguson (tp); Harry Betts, Dick Kenney, Herbie Harper (tb); Ken Martlock (b-tb); Charlie Barnet (sax, ldr); Vinnie DiVittorio, Reuben Leon (as); Dick Hafer, Kurt Bloom (ts); Manny Albam (bar, arr); Claude Williamson (p); Eddie Safranski (b); Tiny Kahn (d,arr); Carlos Vidal (cga); Trudy Richards (vcl); Dennis Farnon, Pete Rugolo (arr).  Recorded in Hollywood on August 16, 1949.
This record is in EE- condition generally, with a few superficial scratches and a slightly noisy start.  There is a small label tear on the "Things" side.
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing.  I know how to pack records.
