Charlie Parker on Dial volumes 1-6 (Spotlite 101-106) complete set 1974 UK repress

Parker (as) with Dizzy Gillespie (t), leader; Red Norvo (vb), leader; and various sidemen over twelve recording sessions.

Recorded, in Hollywood, California, and New York City, from 5 june 1945 to 17 december 1947.

This Issue: There were two and, for some volumes, three issues of the great 1974 pressings of Parker's complete Dial recordings by Tony Williams of Spotlite. I bought mine as a set directly from Tony. He was the first producer to document every take of Parker's for Dial and present all of these classic recordings in an organized fashion, in their entirety. He had the blessing of the sessions' original producer.

None is from the pressing that has "BIRD" on the front cover at the top. Each cover has a different pastel color as background. All remain in their original, British paper sleeves.
Center Labels and Runouts: ?All labels have a black background with silver writing. While the layout of the label name and number, and the track lists, is identical for all volumes, Spotlite 101 and 102 have "101+" and "102+", respectively, to the right of the center hole. The other volumes' catalog numbers have no "+" appended. All have "(P) 1974" on one line and "Collector's item" on the next line, to the left of the hole. Spotlite 103 and 106 do not have "Made in England" at the bottom. The others do.

Condition of Records: VG++. Some of the volumes have spindle wear: My Thorens's spindle was too big, so I had to enlarge the center hole on some records. Otherwise, there are no marks or blemishes, as none of these LPs was played more than three or four times. They still play well, forty-seven years after they were pressed.

Condition of Covers: Volumes 1 through 5 are in very good shape: The British way of making covers, in this era, was to laminate them, front and back. They still have that sheen, and show little wear: hardly a bumped corner or any crimping. Maybe a little mottling, if that.
Volume 6 (my copy of it the rarest in the series) is not in as good shape. No marks on front or back; spine and its corners are fine. But open-end corners are bumped, with bottom one also a little bent. Top inch and a half is bent as well. There's a little laminate missing at the very top. 

These are not just historic recordings in their best presentation but, to many, the greatest studio sessions that Parker ever made.

I'm the original owner of these records. I have carefully kept them stored upright on a shelf, away from sunlight, in their original paper sleeves and covers.

I'm an independent seller divesting his own record collection. I'm not selling from a store or warehouse, with multiple copies of titles, or on behalf of a professional collector.

Shipping: Ebay requires seller to indicate shipping methods and other particulars, then automatically inserts the cost at the top of the listing. Buyer will pay amount as determined by destination, by shipping method he chooses, and by required insurance (see: below); I don't gouge the price to make more profit. (USPS Media Mail is cheapest; I will provide prices for US Priority, or for FedEx or UPS ground, if requested.)

Insurance is mandatory on shipments to US addresses: The final price of the item determines the amount of insurance required. Please wait till I inform you of your total cost prior to submitting payment. It and not Ebay's stated cost is the amount to be paid.

**For winners outside US**: USPS shipping options are International Priority and International Express. Both methods include insurance but only Express provides a return receipt. (Check USPS's website for shipping prices.) If you want a private-company shipper, I will quote you the cost at end of auction. First-Class-Package service, which doesn't include insurance, is an option; the shipping cost will be lower, but if your item doesn't arrive you have no recourse. The risk is yours.

Packing: The LPs will be carefully protected and placed in the standard cardboard LP box. If you want any special packing, such as cardboard inserts for extra reinforcement, please say so. I can send the LPs in two cartons if you're willing to pay twice for postage and insurance.

Payment: Although Ebay now processes payments directly, I also accept Paypal. I accept cash in cases of in-person deliveries.

Returns: Returns will be accepted in cases of error in description.

N A record known to have never been played. A CD that has never been removed from its jewel case.

NM A record or CD known or assumed to have been played. LP may have a surface fingerprint smudge or other minor blemish; it may have slight spindle wear. CD might have been played, but it and its booklet, and its case (or box), show little if any wear. Otherwise, item appears same as N in all respects.
VG++ More handling marks than on NM but should play like new. VG+ Some wear may affect play or there may be a few minor blemishes.
VG More than a few blemishes; may have a scratch. If so, will be described in detail.
