Chas Rose

Child of the Universe (LP)

Gentle spiritual folk by an Australian guy who’s got a gorgeous vocal style… very much in the Nick Drake, Steve Tilston, Duncan Browne zone. There’s a female vocalist on several tracks named Jo Woods, and she’s got a completely sweet vocal style as well. Reminds me of Marj Snyder. There are a few very acid folk sounding tracks, with “For My Isola” being the real standout. There’s definitely a loner aspect and the songs are really topically diverse. Great acoustic playing as well… a few tracks were recorded outdoors and have crickets in the background, lovely.

Should appeal to fans of Nick Drake, Duncan Browne, Steve Tilston, Vashti Bunyan, Midwinter, Caedmon, Dennis Ryder, the current crop of folk like Devendra Banhart, Sufjan Stevens, Joanna Newsome, other similar gentle folk pop records.

Condition:

Cover= Ex+ (small sticker in top left, tiny ring wear)
