From my PERSONAL Collection - just played on my new Denon turntable/cartridge to record.
Yeah - I was big into Quad in the day - had the top of the line JVC receiver, four Advents and two turntables - one just for quad - and a quad reel-to-reel...
I rate these LPs on sound mostly - then cover, inserts, LP sleeve, etc. I care about the sound the most.
I've cleaned these LPs with my Discwasher and Zerostat - if you need more than that, you have some dirty LPs.
Original 1976 US LP on Columbia Records CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY "CTA" - aka: "Chicago I" GQ 33255
This is a QUADRAPHONIC pressing SQ
VG+/VG+: very solid VG+, both discs - jacket is fair quality - not a good sight to be seen, split at top both sides - LP Sleeves - Excellent - They are not the original - see photos.
Side #1 - HOLY COW!!! This side is like new - barely a pop or two here and there - Sounds very good indeed! Very quiet in between songs. All-in-all - very quiet side - remarkable for its' age. Could it be close perfect??? Side #2 - Same as Side #1 - one small pop at the end of "Questions 67 and 68" - that's all I heard. Side #3 - Sounds very good indeed! Very quiet in between songs...surface noise and maybe a very faint pop now and then and a few noticeable ones right at the beginning and during the quiet portions of "Free Form Guitar", but a fairly noisy song - feedback and the like..... Oh what drugs can do..... All together, another quiet, but weird, side from Chicago - Fairly sure I never heard some of these the songs on this side on the radio! Side #4 - Sounds as good as the other sides, except for two pops in the middle of "Someday...." - can't see anything on the vinyl though...Maybe a fluke, but I'm not going to replay..
All-in-all: two of the quietest LPs I've ever heard - add in the age and its' crazy good....very listenable.
You will find a better looking cover, but I'm not sure you'll find better sounding LPs!
Records has been cleaned, sleeved, play tested and protected in an outer sleeve. I pack carefully and ship in a new or used, but in good shape, LP mailer with the LPs outside the sleeve.
These results are on my equipment. You may or may not hear the same.
