For the Audiophile or collector of Chicago vinyl, we have for a no reserve auction, an amazing collection of ten, never played, promotion albums, totaling sixteen discs, all in their original jackets and inner sleeves, complete with all inserts and posters in their original silver foil slip case. This is another item from one of my long time music industry friends. I would think this package to be over thirty years old now, and I was unable to find any information on the package or a catalog number on this all Columbia Records collection. Nor could I confirm that it was at one time available as a commercial item for sale in retail record stores of the day. I mention that because every album in this set has the gold foil, hot stamped “Demonstration Not For Sale” on the back of the jacket. I know the “hot stamping” creates a problem for collectors looking for never played, still sealed product. What you must understand is that to “hot stamp” the album, (or “Decom”, our industry term meaning to make them not available for commercial sale, and be marked as a promotion disc) the shrink wrap had to be removed for the stamp to adhere to the jacket. These never played vinyl discs have a high gloss surface, the Columbia labels and their original paper sleeves. The jackets, having spent their entire life in the original slip case, are as near perfect as you can find with strong corners, no seam splits, notations or ring wear. I’m not going to list the selections as I usually do for each disc nor multiple pictures as I’m sure the knowledgeable Chicago fan is aware of those details, but I will pass on some of my personal observations and multiple pictures of a few of the albums. Vol. 1, gatefold cover never opened till today, but inner paper sleeves are starting to yellow, two discs, no inserts found, catalog # PG 8. Vol. 2, gatefold cover never opened till today, but inner paper sleeves are starting to yellow, two discs, 22” X 33” poster (did not open) catalog # PG 24. Vol. 3, gatefold cover never opened till today, but inner paper “Lyric” sleeves are starting to yellow and one has small cut through, two discs, no insert found, catalog # PG 30110. Vol. 4, slip case, contains 4 LP’s, 3 posters and 1 booklet (did not open) catalog # 30865. Vol. 5, gatefold cover never opened till today, I disc, wood-tone “lyric” inner paper sleeve, 2 posters (did not open) catalog 31102, Vol. 6, gatefold cover never opened till today, 1 Disc, photo inner paper sleeve, small cut through one side, 24” X 36” poster (did not open) catalog # 32400, Vol. 7, gatefold cover never opened till today, two disc set, no insert found, catalog # 32810, Vol. 8, single jacket, single disc, color glossy stock inner sleeve, 36” X 24” poster, Chicago heat transfer decal, catalog # 33100. Vol. 9, single jacket, single disc, color glossy stock inner sleeve, no insert found, catalog #33900. Vol. 10, gatefold cover never opened till today, single disc, color glossy inner sleeve, lyric card, no other insert found. The passage of time has left some marks on the slip case but it has survived in very nice condition. Case measures 13” X 13” X 3 ½” and is finished in a silver foil like covering. There are some blemished to the case after years of shelf life (scotch tape, a few small chinks) but in over all very nice condition.
