Description
Chicago Transit Authority's debut double LP on Columbia Records, catalog GP 8.
Before they were simply known as Chicago, the band arrived with one of the most ambitious debut albums in rock history. Released in 1969, Chicago Transit Authority blended rock, jazz, blues, and horn-driven arrangements into a sprawling double album that introduced classics including "Beginnings," "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?," "Questions 67 & 68," and "I'm A Man." The album helped establish the blueprint for jazz-rock and brass-rock that countless bands would follow.
One of the more fascinating aspects of this release is that legendary producer James William Guercio gave the young band almost complete creative freedom, resulting in a debut album that ran over 75 minutes and showcased the group as musicians as much as songwriters. It remains one of the most highly regarded debut albums of the late 1960s.
This copy includes the original gatefold jacket, all four red Columbia 360 Sound labels, and the original Columbia company inner sleeves shown in the photographs.
Records play NM-.
Please note: Jacket shows age and handling wear including edge wear, corner wear, ring wear, shelf wear, and noticeable wear along portions of the gatefold spine. Gatefold interior remains intact and displays well. Original company inner sleeves show age toning, creasing, and handling wear. Please review all photos closely for jacket, gatefold, labels, inner sleeves, and surface condition.
NOTE: Please consider that your audio equipment blows mine away and the record will invariably sound better on your system. Also, I do not have the ability to professionally clean records and give one static brush before ONE sampling, then back into the sleeve and jacket. My goal is to give you all you need for a transparent purchasing experience.
