This auction is for a Quadraphonic vinyl LP of Chicago V and a TDK 7 inch quadraphonic reel to reel ¼ inch tape of the same title. The tape is recorded at 7 ½ i.p.s. This album was released in 1972 and was Chicago’s first number one album, staying in the top spot for nine weeks. The band still had their original lineup when they recorded this album. The vinyl in very good condition with only light record sleeve rub marks. The winner also gets a free bonus four track/four channel reel to reel quadraphonic recording of Chicago V. The tape is splice free, does not contain dropouts, and has no shedding or sticky tape issues. This tape is not a recording of the vinyl album, but is recorded from a 192/24 high definition digital source. The tape contains the exact same song lineup and 4 channel mix as the vinyl album. Now, for the quad mix. This is one of the best sounding four channel mixes you will find. Well thought out. Clever pans. Nice four speaker balance. Just enough without getting cute. It’s like getting to sit in the middle of the band during the recording session. While the vinyl album provides a nice warm analog rendition, the tape delivers an unbelievably spectacular quad mix that is as close to a studio master as you can get without access to the original tapes. The sound is clear, crisp, and totally amazing. So whether you prefer vinyl or tape (remember, you get both), treat yourself to one of the all-time great bands in their prime with this album.
