Description

Chris Harwood, Nice to meet Miss Christine, Stereo RAB1, Matrix numbers are RAB I AI and RAB I BI. Made in the UK 1970.

Side 1: Mama, Crying to be heard, Wooden ships, Ain't gonna be your slave.

Side 2: Question of time, Gotta do my best, Before you right now, Never knew what love was, Flies like a bird.

My grading system, please note I do not use "Excellent" as a condition. (M, M-, VG++, VG+, VG, VG-, G).

Cover is in VG++ condition. Being un-laminated and from textured card, the cover has very light wear and a bit of discolouration on the right side (see scan) but this is very light considering it is 36 years old, there are no tears or splits, top corners slightly worn but overall it is in fantastic shape.

Record is in conservative VG++ condition. The vinyl is in even better state than the cover. First of all, it has retained all of its brilliant shine, incredibly reflective. The spindles have 2 or 3 marks, a sign of being played very little. As far as scratches, marks go, there is no proper scratches to report, looking at the vinyl in very harsh light, there are light hairline marks/scuffs on side 1 which do not affect play. On side 2 at the beginning of the 3rd track there is a mark but again does not affect play. Please note this is a conservative VG++, if I was carefree I would say M-.

Hello and welcome to my first auction of the year 2007, hope you've had all a good break. I start it off with a special auction with some top titles. In particular the extremely rare copy of Chris Harwood's legendary Lp but don't let that stop you from looking/bidding at my other items, there's some great Kraut Rock, Afro, Reggae Lps and Library cds too! Don't hesitate to get in touch if you need more information.

So what we have here is a (conservative) VG++ original copy of this ultra rare Folk/Psych Lp. Now, I've been reading on the net all sorts of things about the history of this Lp and well it appears that at the time the record did not sell very well and Christine Harwood in a fit of rage destroyed a whole bunch of them, hence it's extreme rarity. Recently re-issued by the great Finders Keepers label, this record has been on all wants list of Folk, Psych, Prog collectors for many years now. With tracks like "Wooden ships", "Never knew what love was" etc. I understand why...deep Folk with Jazz Funk, Psych, Prog influences. Sought after by beat heads/Hip Hop producers too with J. Kay Boots on drums giving us some heavy breaks, Joe Cocker's keyboard player Tommy Eyre injecting some funk plus Dave Lambert from the Strawbs and Yes guitarist Peter Banks bringing in the Prog touches. Very few copies have shown up on Ebay, last copy went for $500 at the beginning of 2006, so there will be a minimal reserve on this. Good luck with your bids!
