Chris McGregor LP
Test pressing for LP recorded in 1969 and unreleased at the time.
Plain white labels and no cover - matrix numbers are RGG 1107 / RGG 1108.
The music is included on two recently released CDs - Our Prayer and Up To Earth.
Side 1 is by the Chris McGregor Trio, with Barre Phillips on bass and Louis Moholo on drums. Tracks are Church Mouse / Moonlight Aloe / Spike Nard.
Side 2 is by the Chris McGregor Septet, with Mongezi Feza on trumpet; Dudu Pukwana, Evan Parker, and John Surman on saxes, Barre Phillips (1st track) or Danny Thompson (2nd track) on bass, and Louis Moholo on drums. Tracks are Moonlight Aloe and Yickytickee, with a brief coda, Union Special.
The style is avant garde, with occasional touches of the African influence that was explored more fully on the subsequent Brotherhood of Breath album.
