Description
Christian Marclay’s famous (and literal) “Record Without a Cover” from 1985, sold without a sleeve and with the admonition "Do not store in a protective package" embossed on the vinyl -- with the idea that that way, every copy would be different. I bought this personally at the New Music Distribution Service on lower Broadway, NYC, right after it came out, and immediately slipped it into a plastic sleeve for protection (sorry, Christian). It’s been in that sleeve ever since, and has been played only a handful of times. The embossing on one side of the record says, in part, “Christian Marclay / Record Without a Cover / Manipulated records on multiple turntables / Do not store in a protective package / Recorded on a 4-track at Plugg, New-York City, March 1985 / Made possible with support from Hallwalls in Buffalo, N.Y. and by Catherine and Nicolas Ceresole / Special thanks to Steve Gallagher, Sokhi Wagner, Nina Fonoroff / © Recycled Records, 304 East 5th Street, Suite 5B, New York, N.Y. 10003.”
