CHRISTMAS AT LIBERACE'S
by Mother Frances Liberace
Christmas has always been the most important holiday in our family. Even when my children were just youngsters, they looked forward to this holiday and planned for the celebration all year long. Other holidays just seemed like rehearsals for the big day that was coming. I can remember when they used to make their own Christmas cards and gifts and save up their small allowancm so they could buy some extra delicacy for the holiday dinner table. And how they would surprise their relatives and friends with a different little musical play each year. They would sing, dance and enact little Christmas scenes and everyone would join in a big community sing for a finale. Sometimes they even wore costumes the time they gave their interpretation of the Nativity scene. Lee as we call Liberace was always the "producer and be would search the attic for props and use some old, faded draperies with which to drape his sister. Angelina as Mary. George and Lee would transform themselves into shepherds dressed in togas made of bed sheets tied around them with clothesline. Even Rudy, the youngest son, then a baby, got into the art as the Christ Child. To them it was real sincery drama but I am sure even God smiled down at their portrayal of this holy scene. The years have paned and many Christmases too,
each one a treasured memory. Today my children's carvers have progressed to a degree of world promi nenor and they could easily be forgiven if their attitude towards Christmas took on a more commer cal approach. However, I am happy to say that all of them are still youngsters at beart when it comes to Christmas. Lee still acting as producer creates all the holiday decorations in our home and in the homes of his brothers and sister. Each year be tries to outdo his former efforts and it is truly a beautiful sight to behold. Then be plans a feast for the family and close friends that keeps me preparing for weeks in advance. He om homemade things and after many restaurants all year long on his tours, be relishes a slice of my homemade bread with my own preserves more than a seven course meal in

He re members all year long and buys little things I have noticed and admired in shop windows and things I sometimes accidentally wish out loud for. Not only is he generous with me but he has a heart of gold when it comes to others in his family and the people around him. Add to this his beautiful music along with his brother George and his sister, who today acts as his personal secretary, and "baby Rudy. now a grown man, plus four wonderful grand children so far and you have a proud and happy mother whose children have never stopped believing in Santa Claus. God Bless them always.
