About the record
UK stereo LP on Decca, SET 331 — a factory sampler of the 1967 Bernstein recording, which is why it carries its own catalogue number rather than the commercial release’s. Leonard Bernstein conducts the Wiener Philharmoniker, with James King and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as soloists.
Das Lied von der Erde is Mahler’s symphonic song cycle, setting Hans Bethge’s translations of Chinese poetry for two voices and orchestra — written after the Eighth Symphony and left without a number, and widely held to be among his finest work.
A unique, one-off pressing. The Discogs entry (release 33585921) is the sampler itself and records no copies in collections against three wantlists — the only other copy currently for sale anywhere is listed at £42.66.
Condition
A UNIQUE, ONE OFF - STEREO SAMPLER in top condition. Audio is loud and dynamic, virtually no noise anywhere - essentially mint, but listed as NM - I heard one pop and no other noise.
Grade: Near Mint (NM) record / Very Good Plus (VG+) sleeve — record graded by listening.
