Original psychedelic reflective silver cover issue of these avant garde harpsichord works performed by Elisabeth Chojnacka, incorporating experimental playing techniques and exploiting the percussive and rhythmic possibilities of the venerable keyboard instrument and the acrobatic abilities of the performer. The highlight is a piece by Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza member Aldo Clementi. The Finzi, Miroglio, Constant, and Tisne works were all commissioned by Chojnacka especially for this album. This record is part of the great Philips silver series of experimental music that issued legendary recordings by Gilbert Amy, Pierre Henry, Arne Nordheim, Pierre Schaeffer, Francois Bayle, Bernard Parmegiani, Dubravko Detoni, Luc Ferrari, Ivo Malec, and Gottfried Michael Koenig.

Clementi was a member of the pioneering electronic improv collective Gruppe Nuova Consonanza (Il Gruppo) along with Franco Evangelisti, Mario Bertoncini, John Heineman, Larry Austin, John Eaton, Ennio Morricone, Egisto Macchi, Frederic Rzewski, and Roland Kayn. • Ligeti was a Hungarian composer who studied under Ferenc Farkas and Sandor Veress and explored methods of micropolyphony/tone-clustering as well as early electronic music; he was influenced by Zoltan Kodaly and Bela Bartok, and was peers with John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Henri Pousseur, Pierre Boulez, Olivier Messiaen, Mauricio Kagel, and Iannis Xenakis at the famous Darmstadt courses. • Berio was a pupil of Luigi Dallapiccola and Olivier Messiaen, collaborated with Italo Calvino, was married to Cathy Berberian, associated with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, and Luigi Dallapiccola, taught Steve Reich, founded the Milan Studio di Fonologia with Bruno Maderna (where John Cage, Henri Pousseur, Luigi Nono, Andre Boucourechliev, and Bengt Hambraeus worked), and directed the electroacoustic department of ICRAM in Paris. • Miroglio is a French composer, poet, and painter who studied with Darius Milhaud and collaborated with visual artists Alexander Calder, Joan Miro and Michel Seuphor. • Constant studied composition under Arthur Honegger, Nadia Boulanger, and Olivier Messiaen, and conducting with Jean Fournet; he founded the instrumental ensemble Ars Nova, was an early member of the INA-GRM, and also worked in film and television (he wrote the theme to The Twilight Zone). • Finzi studied under Ernest Farrar, Edward Bairstow, and R.O. Morris, associated with Benjamin Britten, Elgar, Parry, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Kenneth Leighton, and Ivor Gurney, and was inspired by the literature of Thomas Hardy, Thomas Traherne, and Wordsworth. • Donatoni was an Italian avant-garde composer who attended the pivotal Darmstadt summer classes of the 1950s where he mingled with Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage; he studied with Ildebrando Pizzetti, was influenced by Arnold Schoenberg, Bruno Maderna, and Goffredo Petrassi, and became an important teacher to Roberto Carnevale, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Magnus Lindberg.

Packing I pack professionally and with the utmost care drawn from years of experience trading vinyl internationally. I use new record mailers from Cameron Packaging (which I have determined are the best and most protective) reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.
