Description
Once in a lifetime!
Offered for auction are a collection of 8 extremely rare recordings.
These 8 discs are transcription recordings made as one off discs by NBC in the states to record Stan Kenton and his orchestra for later replay on radio stations.
These 16" discs are on heavy grade vinyl and play at 33rpm, the condition is not fabulous and some scratches are present on some of the discs. I have not played these discs since they came into my possession through a friend who is heavily into audio and was given these from an avid audiophile collector.
Track Listing is as follows.
2/9/52 Stan Kenton Orchestra – Ft Sheridan I – (cut NBC)
2/9/52 Stan Kenton Orchestra – Ft Sheridan II – (cut NBC)
20/10/51 Stan Kenton Orchestra – Carnegie Hall – (cutXI/64 TSK Vienna) Double sided with 1/3/51 Palladium Hollywood on B side – AFRS – One night stand
12/8/52 Stan Kenton Orchestra –Pittsburgh PA – (cut NBC)
29/7/52 Stan Kenton Orchestra – Atlantic City – (cut NBC)
22/1/53 Stan Kenton Orchestra – Palladium Hollywood – (cut NBC)
19/10/51 Stan Kenton Orchestra – Carnegie Hall – (cut XI/64 TSK Vienna) Double sided a) Improvisat / Love F.S. b) Spirals / Art Peppers
7/9/52 Stan Kenton Orchestra – Blue Note/Chic – (cut NBC)
Asa you can see from the listing above, these really are very unique indeed, one off recordings in the best quality format available during the golden days of vinyl. Half a century ago the live event captured with all the atmosphere of a top band in full flight. Genuinely a reference recording with a high collectors value, potentially a once in a lifetime find for the right collector.
