Collins and Sandy, Piano Duo, Clover Records 777 Salt Mine Boogie/The Man I Love

$

20

Up for sale is an exceptionally rare 78 rpm, 10 inch, shellac record featuring the talents of the piano duo of Collins and Sandy playing two jazzy songs.  The artists and even the record label are very obscure!  I know of no other copies for sale.

Record Label:  Clover Records (Hollywood, California)

Record Number: 777 Year of Release:  Not stated but likely late 1940s Artists: Collins and Sandy
A Side (777-A):  "The Man I Love" (Gershwin) Wax matrix mark:  "CL-777-A"  (There is also a small diamond with the letter "E" inside, at about 180 degrees distance from the wax matrix mark.)
B Side (777-B):  "Salt Mine Boogie" (Fleener) Wax matrix mark:  "CL-777-B"  (There is also a small diamond with the letter "E" inside, at about 180 degrees distance from the wax matrix mark.)
"The Man I Love", composed by George Gershwin (with lyrics by Ira Gershwin, not applicable to this instrumental version), is a classic standard that needs no further comment.
I was unable to find anything about "Salt Mine Boogie", nor about the composer (Fleener).  This song is notable for its fairly discordant harmonies, more than might be expected for the era.
There's also almost nothing out there about pianists Collins and Sandy.  They are mentioned in a few editions of Billboard Magazine that appeared in the late 1940s.  The May 28, 1949 edition, page 36, lists the record I am selling under the "Advance Records Releases" column.
Please see above for full description of condition and for photos.   Sold as is.
Attention US Buyers:  I will ship by USPS Media Mail or by USPS Priority Mail, your choice.  Please note that if you have a Military Mail (e.g. APO) address, I must ask that you pick USPS Priority Mail as it is my understanding that USPS Media Mail is not reliable to Military Mail addresses.
SPECIAL NOTE:  I have one other Collins and Sandy, Clover Records (#779) for sale.  That auction is synchronized to close at the same time as this one.  If you win both auctions, I can combine shipping, in which case both records will be shipped in one box, with the cost based on the weight of the combined shipment.
Attention International Buyers:  Unfortunately, it appears that international shipping from the US (via the USPS) has become unreliable, because of the pandemic.  Therefore, I have decided to remove the international shipping option.  You are still welcome to bid on this item, but will need to supply a shipping address in the US.  I'm sorry for the inconvenience.  Thank you for your understanding.
