Description

"Is Everybody Happy?"
Rare Ted Lewis Show (2)Transcription Disc Set Available
Program 1 Both Parts and Program 2 Both Parts

Up for your consideration is a 2 Transcription Disc set of "The Ted Lewis Show",
a Chartoc-Colman Production, Chicago Illinois

Recorded and pressed by Columbia Recording Corporation,
a subsidiary of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc.

What makes this a set is the way in which the programs were transcribed onto the discs. The first disc includes Program 1 Part 1 and Program 2 Part 1. The second disc includes Program 1 Part 2 and Program 2 Part 2. You see, 2 consecutive programs are split between 2 discs. The first half of both programs is on one disc and the second half of both programs is on the other disc. Having both discs completes each of the two programs.

It may go without saying that these two discs feature the earliest episodes of the Ted Lewis Show. In short, the Ted Lewis Show is for the most part a lost treasure of old time radio shows. Not entirely, because it is available here and difficult to locate elsewhere (for sale or not for sale).

The Transcription Discs are 16" in diameter and plays at 33 1/3 RPM

Based on the design of the label and the content of the disc, we believe
this disc dates from the '40's. My research has led me to believe that the Ted Lewis Show was aired between 1947 and 1948. This is consistent with the time frame in which the musical note and microphone logo of CBS was in use. However, there is limited information on-line to substantiate either view, especially the airing years of the Ted Lewis Show.

For condition information please see below and images:

Both discs do have what appears to be a considerable amount of lines or rubbings on the inner couple of inches of the discs. I don't believe this is in the playing area of the discs. Few of the lines carry onto or start in the playing area. The content could probably be read into a computer with none or a few sound issues. The labels are in very good condition.

The Part 1 paper sleeve appears to be in fairly good condition. There are a few very tiny tears at the top and bottom of sleeve. Other than that, there is an approximately 5.5 inch slit at the bottom of the sleeve. The bottom front corner of sleeve says "#27 Part I", apparently Program 27 Part 1 was stored in here at some point in time. We have Program 27 Part 1 as well as other Programs and plan to list them soon on open auction. So please keep a look-out for them. Don't miss out on such a treasure.

The Part 2 paper sleeve appears to be in a little better condition than Part 1 sleeve. There are a few very tiny tears at the top of the sleeve. The top back left corner of sleeve says "Prog 13-pt 1 & 14 pt 1". Apparently the disc containing Program 13 Part 1 and Program 14 Part 1 was stored in here at some point in time. We did check and yes we have this disc as well and plan to list it.

One final note: we have a number of programs on typed transcription discs and a few test pressings. We will list the transcription discs periodically. However, as test pressings are much more rare, we will be considering our options on them in due time.

These discs were acquired from a public University
