Columbia Advertisement 33RPM 16" Transcription Disc
Musebeck Shoe Company Circa 1932-1936 RARE
(2nd and last Musebeck Disc)
Up for your consideration is a single-sided Transcription Disc of a radio advertisement for the Musebeck Shoe Company. Manufactured and patented in the USA.
This is a great piece of local history of Sheboygan Wisconsin manufacturing. Ideal for a Sheboygan local history collector, collector of manufacturing or shoe memorabilia.
Or, of course, a transcription disc/radio advertisement buff.
According to the record label there are five minute programs contained on the disc, based on the grooves of the disc and the numbering on the label (113 and 114), it appears that there are 2 five minute programs.
The disc is Blue in color, has a blue label, lacks the CBS microphone in its logo and "Columbia" is spelled with lower case letters after the "C". According to our research, those aspects of the label date the disc between 1932 and 1936. This is one of the heavier, thicker shellac made discs.
The paper sleeve identifies its manufacturer, Audio Devices, Inc. (maker of audiodiscs).

It appears the advertising agency was Sehl Advertising Agency,
Chicago, Ill.
The Transcription Disc is 16" in diameter, it is not listed whether it is a Lateral or a Vertical Cut.
It lists playing speed at 33 1/3 RPM.
On one of the inside circles on the front side of an advertising disc already sold, there is a "do not use this cut" inscription and every inch or so has a tiny notch.
The previously sold Musebeck disc had the notches, but not the phrase "do not use this cut". I imagine it would be like a reflector on a road that when you start to drive over it, the car makes a bumpy sound to warn you that you are going off the road. In this case, it would alert the broadcast operator from playing that cut.
Without playing that disc, we can not be sure why the alert was put onto it.
On the other hand, this Musebeck disc does not have the notches or inscription. It would be reasonable to assume that all the "cuts" are playable for this disc.
There are several numbers on the front label. The first number is located above the playing speed and is 340743. On the right side of label is typed "113 and 114 Start at Inside".
The disc shows a rubbing and a small chip at the outer edge of the disc. The chip is not in a grooved area. We do not believe the rubbing would affect the playing area. Penciled in on the label is "8/31-113". The disc comes in its paper sleeve which is in very good condition. There are a few small tears on the sleeve and are primarily located on the top of the sleeve. There are a few tiny cuts in other locations as well. Nothing serious. See images for further detail.
