Description

This lot is a 1st pressing with its original turquoise silver label of  the 2 record set of the 1962 stereo recording of the Brahms German Requiem with Elisabeth Scwartzkopf, Deitrich Fischer Deskau with the Philharmonia Orchestra & Chorus conducted by Otto Klemperer. The sound quality is magnificent and is compararble with the very best of the period. Unusually in this work the organ part stands out quite clearly

The set is unusual in that it is recorded on 3 sides only of the 4 sides available. The 2nd side of the first record is blank with just the Columbia 'Magic Notes' pressed on it.

Record 1

The vinyl is visually bright and shiny with no visible marks or scatches. There are 3 short pieces of surface noise close to the start of the first movement. Other than that it plays with only slight surface noise and only very few light clicks or pops.

The sleeve of record 1 is in good condition though the laminate has contracted at the right hand edge leaving a 2 mm strip of unlaminated card. There is some monor corner damage but edges and spine are in very good condition with neither creases nor tears. The back of the sleeve has a little brown discolouration

Record 2

The vinyl is clean and shiny and there are no visible marks or scratches. It plays with only slight surface noise and very few light clicks and pops.

The sleeve of record 2 has the same 2 mm strip of exposed card on the right hand side where the laminate has contracted and there is a little corner damage. There is some slight rippling of the card in the top right hand corner of the sleeve and a slight crease in the bottom right hand corner.

This is an enjoyable copy of a great recording.

Both records come with their original inner sleeves

Note : I am a record enthusiast not a dealer and I do not use the misleading Record Collector Grading System. I grade records by close visual inspection, and most importantly, by playing end to end on high quality equipment
