The Complete Commodore Jazz Recordings, Volume 1

Issued on Mosaic Records in 1988, this set has been out of print for many years, and has become highly sought after. It is the first installment of a three-volume set which comprises the entire recorded output of the Commodore Jazz label. The recordings in this set span from April 1929 to December 1943, and include players such as Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Eddie Condon, Billie Holiday, Chu Berry, Jelly Roll Morton, Wild Bill Davison, Pee Wee Russell, Stuff Smith, Willie "The Lion" Smith, and more. This set does contain previously unissued recordings unavailable elsewhere, and at least one entirely unissued Joe Bushkin session from March 1941. These are rare recordings indeed, and represent some of the greatest early jazz in America.
The large outer box is in EX condition with some minimal shelf wear. The two inner boxes housing the 23 records and booklet are in EX++ to NM condition with very minor shelf wear; the binding along their spines is perfect. The cover of the large, 64-page booklet is in EX- condition, with minimal shelf wear and a few tiny creases about 1/2 cm in length each; the front, upper left corner of the cover is very slightly indented. This does not affect the readability or binding of the booklet in the least. The booklet pages are in NM condition, with no creases whatsoever, and contain a complete discography of the recordings and numerous archive pictures of the musicians. The 23 vinyl records are NM condition, with Record 1, side A being NM-, as it has just one very superficial, thin mark that does not affect play whatsoever.
