Cover: VG+ does have a punch hole in bottom left hand corner. A double gatefold format with matte, smooth surfaces. The first opening shows the infamous ritual artwork, the second opening has the song lyrics and includes the entrance for the record storage, this is quite discrete and not immediately obvious. Printed and made in the United States.
Top Edges: All edges are straight with barely any hint of wear and NO splits or repairs.
Bottom Edges: As above.
Corners: Light to moderate tip rubbing to the more exposed outer corners, but the inside ones have hardly anything. Very fine to excellent shape retained, even better inside.
Cover Summary: A controversial and daring cover for the time, but now regarded as a pioneering classic, and of course, rare and elusive. A very strong all-round example and one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This rare original item should please many, if not most collectors.
Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: Near Mint: This looks hardly even played. A superb looking US Mercury record. Very clean with equally fine shine and solidly pressed. Visually a super record that should please most-all collectors.
Mint (M): Absolutely perfect in every way. Certainly never been played, possibly even still sealed. *This grade should be used sparingly, if at all.* Near Mint (NM or M-): This should be a nearly perfect record. The record should show no signs of wear. It should basically look like you just bought it and took it out of the shrink wrap. Very Good Plus (VG+): These will show some signs that it has been played but otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. It may have very light scratches that don’t affect the sound. Some imperfections to the cover/sleeves are acceptable. Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing but will not overpower the music. Slight scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that may affect the sound will be noticeable. Cover may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers attached. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, it should have only two or three of them. Good or Good Plus (G or G+): A record in this condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise, scratches, and visible groove wear. The cover or sleeve will have seam splits especially along the bottom or spine. Tape, writing, ring wear, and other defects will be present on cover or sleeves. Poor or Fair (P or F): The record is cracked, badly warped, and won’t play through without skipping or repeating. Cover and sleeves are torn, water damaged, falling apart. Other than VERY RARE records these should not be purchased for more than a few cents each.
