“Proud Mary” was released as a single alongside “Born On The Bayou” and became one of Creedence Clearwater Revival's biggest early hits.
The song has subsequently become a rock standard, covered by numerous artists, but this original CCR recording remains the definitive version for many listeners.
THE CCR SOUND
Bayou Country is an important album in establishing the sound that would make Creedence Clearwater Revival one of America's most successful rock bands.
Despite their California origins, CCR developed a musical identity heavily influenced by Southern blues, country, swamp music and American roots traditions. John Fogerty's distinctive vocals and guitar work are central to the album's character.
The closing track, “Keep On Chooglin',” is an extended blues-rock workout and a great example of the band's energetic live-oriented sound.
