Description
From Little Acorns Grow By Crooked Oak Folkland Records Label - FL 0102
One of only 500 pressed according to Discogs, a private pressing from 1976, this is Folk in the traditional style and it is quality Folk! A really good listen.
It comes in the original fully laminated cover and a plain white paper die-cut inner.
CONDITION
Examined under a strong halogen lamp, both sides have a few light scratches and a scattering of sleeve withdrawal marks. However, and more importantly, side one has what looks like two cigarette burns 1cm across, that have also manifest themselves faintly on the other side in the same spots, but please read about how they play before passing judgement! I have included a photo of one of them. Visually, the record also has a good gloss and grades as Good+
Played on a Project Debut III turntable through a Denon system, side one plays VG with barely any background noise. Side two plays similarly. On initial playing I didn't hear the aforementioned 'burns' and then noticed a barely audible soft 'thud' on a second playing. I checked the whole album again and did notice this time that all four 'burn' marks produce quiet and soft 'thuds' on each revolution. Once you know they are there then they become noticeable but not to the extent that it brings the overall play-grade down from Very Good but, for me, it is just about a VG grade.
Both labels have spindle trails.
The cover has some light creasing, staining and ringwear. There is also a very small 'chip' from the surface of the cover at the bottom on the front. Because of the staining and 'chip' it is graded as Fair.
NOTE: photos are not 'stock' photos
OVERALL GRADE (record / cover)
VERY GOOD minus / FAIR
GRADING GUIDE - IMPORTANT!
I visually examine all records under a strong 35w halogen lamp, which shows up ALL defects.
I strictly grade my records according to the Rare Record Price Guide (RRPG), which, to me, means as follows:
MINT- Must be sealed
NEAR MINT - Totally unmarked, no scratches, not even faint 'hairlines' / sleeve withdrawal marks or any other signs of having been played.
EXCELLENT - No scratches, just signs of having been played, such as the odd faint 'hairline' sleeve withdrawal mark that is barely visible under a strong lamp, or spindle trails on the label.
VERY GOOD - The first mild scratches have begun to appear, but only very, very few.
GOOD - More scratches than Very Good and more severe, but I am confident that the record will play through without skips or sticking and will still provide a good listening experience.
FAIR - The record may not play through properly with a chance of it jumping and / or it will play with significant background noise.
POOR - It definitely won't play without skipping or sticking.
Below Near Mint I will use plus or minus with a grade to highlight fine differences.
COVER GRADES
My cover grades are EXACTLY as stated in Record Collector magazine / RRPG. Therefore, if a cover is defaced, stained or torn it CANNOT grade better than FAIR. Likewise, if any part of the contents are missing it CANNOT grade better than POOR.
All our records are dispatched using stiffeners and card mailers.
